PAX 2010: Duke Nukem Forever set for PC, PS3 and 360 in 2011.

The rumours are true; Duke Nukem Forever will finally, after 14 years of development, hit players homes in 2011, thanks to Gearbox Softworks.

As expected, it’s not just heading for the PC this time, with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions also in the works.

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said the team had been working on the project since late 2009 and wants it to be “the game it was supposed to be.” In a later interview with the Wall Street Journal, Pitchford mentioned the game is now in the “polishing phase,” but neglected to offer a tighter timeframe for release.

Duke Nukem Forever is currently playable on the PAX show floor, so (hopefully) we’ll able to get some video to you soon.

Take-Two’s quarterly earnings round-up.

Take-Two have delivered their latest earnings report for Q3 2010, revealing a number of details about their upcoming titles.

First up: Red Dead Redemption. The title’s been a massive success for the company and has shipped a tremendous 6.9 million copies to stores. Earlier in the year Take Two revealed that the game had already offset the cost of it’s long development time after selling 5 million copies, meaning that Red Dead Redemption is now firmly in the ‘money maker’ territory.

Take Two CEO Ben Feder also stood by the recently released Mafia 2, which, according to a number of analysts, would struggle to turn a profit. Feder reassured investors, saying: “Based upon the initial launch, we expect this to be another profitable title for Take-Two.” Analysts, however, believe Mafia 2 will suffer for it’s mixed reviews and eight year long developments cycle (2K Czech had to create a new engine). “We’re very proud of the game,” said Take-Two chief executive Ben Feder, going on to call 2K Czech an “extremely talented studio.”

Sadly, L.A. Noire has been delayed yet again, and now joins Max Payne 3 as a 2011 title.

A massive 93% of Take-Two’s earnings come from the (44%) Playstation 3 and (49%) Xbox 360, with just 1% attributed to the Wii.

Capcom wants Dead Rising to replace Resident Evil as the studios number 1 franchise.

It seems Capcom has some high hopes for the Dead Rising series, after Capcom’s head of global research and development Keiji Inafune told Eurogamer that the company hopes Dead Rising can replace Resident Evil as their “number one IP within Capcom.

“The goal for Dead Rising 2 is to replace the Resident Evil franchise and become number one IP within Capcom,” said Inafune.

Despite the fact Dead Rising has a long way to go to beat Resident Evil (which has sold 44 million copies across 63 titles), Inafune is optimistic.

“As a creator, the sales and marketing part aside, unless you have a big goal to strive for you can’t create a good game,” before mentioning that Dead Rising 3 isn’t a dead cert, and will hinge on the sales of Dead Rising 2.

“Until Dead Rising 2 sells we probably can’t start talking about spin-offs,” Inafune said.

“If it’s received pretty well, yes we would consider a sequel. But at the moment we just don’t know.”
