The German made pill, named flibanserin, could be on sale within two years, with the current manufacturers poised to apply for permission to sell it in Europe.
Trails of flibanserin have concluded women who take the drug once a day have sex 60% more often and enjoy it more, thanks to its effects on the pleasure centre of a woman’s brain, and its ability to restore libido.
Up to a quarter of women suffer from a flagging libido, leading analysts to believe the drug could be as successfull as Viagra, which makes £2 billion a year, worldwide.
The pill was originally created as an antidepressant but trails showed its ability to enhance the sex drive.
