Square Enix have said they are “interested” in the possibility of a 3D Final Fantasy title.
In an Playstation.com interview, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase and designer Motomu Toriyama discussed the notion of a potential 3D Final Fantasy game.
“We don’t know how possible it is to build the game in 3D but we are interested in it,” said Kitase.
“In fact, we have already created a 3D Final Fantasy XIII trailer, which is currently showing in Japanese cinemas alongside the film Avatar.”
“Currently, that’s only available in Japan, but there might be an opportunity for a wider release in the future.”
Sony are the only video game provider making an explicit push towards 3D technology, so far.
A firmware update this summer is set to ‘unlock’ 3D capability in all Playstation 3 systems. Software support, however, is on a case by case basis. Titles such as LittleBigPlanet, WipEout HD, Gran Turismo 5 and Super Stardust HD have been demonstrated, but no official roster exists.
