[February NPD's] Xbox 360 manages top spot for the first time in 3 years.

February’s figures are in (for the period starting 31/1/2010 through 27/2/2010) and, surprisingly, the Xbox 360 has managed to claim the top spot for the first time since September 2007 – when Halo 3 released. Despite year-over-year sales falling, the Playstation 3 did manage a 30% increase for the month, over last year’s figures.

February 2010 Hardware Sales
Nintendo DS — 613,200
— 422,000
Wii — 397,900
— 360,100
PlayStation Portable — 133,400
PlayStation 2 — 101,900

In terms of software, the Xbox 360 version of BioShock 2 managed to place first, with the Playstation 3 SKU not making the top 10. The rest of the pack are fairly cut and dry, with stalwarts such as Modern Warfare 2 (both 360 and PS3 versions), Just Dance (), New Super Mario Bros. () and Dantes Inferno (360 and PS3) all making appearances. Heavy Rain also managed to take the last spot, despite only 4-days to build up 219k sales.
