Nintendo has just announced the next generation of the massively popular Nintendo DS. Dubbed, the Nintendo 3DS (a ‘temporary’ name) the handheld will offer 3D effects without the need for glasses, will a full unveiling set for E3 2010.
The device, which is set for release “during the fiscal year ending March 2011″ (presumably for Japan), will be backwards compatible with all software for both the Nintendo DS and DSi.
According to rumours (this is all unconfirmed) the 3DS will feature two screens (again), with virtually no seam between them when opened, and both screens are said to be of a higher resolution. Supposedly, the device will utilize a version of the nVidia Tegra graphics processing chip, popular with smartphones, and will be ‘about’ as powerful as a Gamecube. An accelerometer (for motion control) is also on the cards but, as I said, this is all speculation until confirmed – and we may have to wait till E3 for that.
