Nintendo president Saturo Iwata has confirmed that the company plans to implement stronger anti-piracy measures for the recently revealed 3DS.
Iwata acknowledged that piracy has been a major problem for the companies current handheld, saying the issue has contributed to a drop in software sales. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo plans to do a better job with the 3DS, but declined to offer specifics as it would provide “hints” to pirates on how to defeat it.
“We fear a kind of thinking is become widespread that paying for software is meaningless,” he said. “We have a strong sense of crisis about this problem.”
The Nintendo president then told Forbes magazine the 3DS’s 3D functionality would be “easy” to turn off, after being questioned over concerns the 3D screens could damage children’s eyesight.
You can expect to hear much more about Nintendo’s next handheld, the 3DS, at this years E3.
