Update: Nintendo have confirmed that the price cut will be in effect in Europe as well, as they have dropped the trade price. The final price, however, is down to retailers. Original post follows.
Just two weeks before Nintendo’s new handheld, the 3DS, is set to make it’s debut in Los Angeles, Nintendo have announced plans to drop the price of both the DSi and DSi XL in Japan.
Starting June 19th, the price of the DSi XL is to be cut from ¥20,000 (£148/$218) to ¥18,000 (£133/$196) along with the DSi, which falls from ¥18,900 (£140/$206) to ¥15,000 (£111/$164). Nintendo have so far failed to specify whether these reductions will make their way to other regions, but told Eurogamer they plan to make a “statement about our plans in Europe later on today.”
In addition to the price drops, Nintendo also announced three new colours for the DSi XL, blue, yellow and green, all of which will be hitting stores on the same day as the price reductions, June 19th.
