Wrath of the Lich King finally releasing in China.

Nearly two years after the expansion hit Western stores, our friends in the East will finally be able to get a taste of Northrend, after Blizzard announced that Wrath of the Lich King would be launching in mainland China on August 31st.

The title had been struggling to get past the Chinese censor authorities, who wanted all undead-themed content modified. For instance, all exposed bone on zombie characters had to be covered with flesh.

After two previous failures, however, Chinese licensee Netease has now secured a release date for the title, just as the West prepares for the release of the next World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm.

is one of the most popular online games among Chinese players, and we believe that the new content in Wrath of the Lich King will generate even more excitement,” said William Ding, CEO of NetEase.

“We are fully prepared on all fronts to provide great service and support to all of the new and returning players throughout China, and we look forward to welcoming them to Northrend.”
