David O. Russell quits Uncharted movie.

Make no mistake: David O. Russell is a great filmmaker. But when you take the storyline of one the this generations best video game series’ and decide to transform Nathan Drake (who is an orphan, by the way) into a member of a family of antique traders – complete with Robert De Niro as your father – fans are understandably going to be pissed.

On that note, in possibly the best news this week, Variety are reporting that director David O. Russell has dropped out entirely from the project over “creative differences.” The split was apparently amicable and Sony are said to be looking for a replacement.

Unfortunately, there’s no mention of whether Russell’s vision (with Mark Wahlberg playing the title role with Robert De Niro playing the father and Joe Pesci, of all people, playing an uncle) has bitten the dust along with him. It does seem likely, though.
