While Dead Island might not have set the world alight following it’s release early this month, it’s debut trailer certainly came close. And that’s apparently the reason for it’s imminent transfer to the silver screen, with Legendary Pictures picking up the rights for a feature length film, all because of that trailer.
The intention is to focus on the “human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling,” with Sean Daniel, producer of The Mummy, heading up the project.
“Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck,” Lionsgate boss Joe Drake said.
“This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate – it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.”
As you’d expect, it’s still very early going, with no release date, potential actors, or directors even so much as in the frame, just yet.
