World of Warcraft has dropped a massive 1.1 million subscribers, roughly 10% of it’s userbase, in the last six months.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime revealed that most of the drop was seen in the East. In May, player numbers sat pretty at 11.4 million, but have since fell sharply to 10.3 million.
Traditionally though, World of Warcraft usually experiences a slight subscriber increase in December. Things are looking rosy for the company as a whole though, with profits nearly tripling from $51 million this time last year to $148 million.
Activision also mentioned the increased development costs associated with Blizzard at the moment, who have Diablo 3, Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and Titan in development. At least two major releases are expected next year.
