A report by the Japanese newspaper Nikkei suggests that Kaznouri Hirai will become the President of Sony this year, likely by April.
Sony set the stage for his promotion last year, when Hirai, who made his name running the Playstation division, was promoted to the head of consumer products and services, putting him in charge of the bulk of Sony’s $85 billion in annual sales.
It’s unclear where this will leave current CEO Howard Stringer, whose reign has seen Sony’s stock price drop by 60% and the company lag behind the South Korean company Samsung.
