Medal of Honour needs to reach 3 million sold to warrant sequel.

EA’s upcoming Medal of Honour reboot will have to sell over 3 million copies in order to get a sequel, according to executive producer Greg Goodrich.

Speaking to The New York Times, Goodrich also revealed that the first person shooter was originally called “Medal of Honour: Anaconda,” and was pitched as “Black Hawk Down in Afghanistan.” The game would have been based on Operation Anaconda, a failed (in real life) operation, where a Navy Seal was dragged to his death by Al Qaeda forces. Ironically, given MOH’s recent controversy in the media, the storyline was scuppered because it “hit too close to home” and “left a sour taste in our brothers’ mouths.”

Over development, however, Medal of Honour decided to try and “tell the soldiers story,” and rather than have a blockbuster feel, aim for reality. One designer said; “we want the player to feel, not like they’re in a movie, but like they’re in Afghanistan.”

Games aren’t cheap, though, and executive producer Greg Goodrich finished by telling the newspaper that “if the game doesn’t sell at least three million copies, I’m not going to be able to do another one.”

Need For Speed World goes free.

Apparently, over a million of you have decided to check out EA’s latest massively multiplayer experiment, Need For Speed World, and to show their appreciation, EA has removed level restrictions for non-paying customers, meaning that all current and future content will be free-to-play.

Previously, while anyone could create an account and play, Need For Speed World only allowed player who purchased a special “starter pack” progress past level 10. That’s a pretty big deal, considering the level cap is currently 50.

Thankfully, that system is no more. And any Joe Blogg’s can play to their hearts content, and experience all NFSW has to offer, including the games future content (such as more cars, a new region, and a co-op pursuit mode).

“Need for Speed fans have played a critical role in making Need for Speed World a success. Fan feedback has helped shape every aspect of the experience – whether it’s the creation of a new feature or improving polish and progression,” said John Doyle, Senior Producer, Need for Speed World. “We’re excited to open the gates so that every Need for Speed World player now has free access to all current and future content including new modes, cars, features and more.”

PAL Charts (week 35, 2010) Mafia 2 stays strong edition.

Despite analyst’s prediction that the game would struggle to make any money, Mafia 2 continues to perform well in the UK, grabbing the top spot for the second week running on the PAL charts.

Kane & Lynch 2 stays in second, followed by a resurgent Wii Sports Resort in third, up from fifth last week. Toy Story 3 and Red Dead Redemption round out the top five, in fourth and fifth respectively.

Just Dance holds it’s place in sixth, Super Mario Galaxy grabs seventh, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior continues to baffle by taking eighth. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands takes ninth and the only new release this week, H.A.W.X. 2 only manages to reach tenth.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam making an appearance at TGS.

Considering that it’s supposed to be released in “winter 2010,” we’ve heard very little about the upcoming Vietnam expansion for Bad Company 2. Sure, we know it’ll bring four new maps, a bunch of new – Vietnam-era – weapons, and more unlocks and achievements/trophies, but when can we actually expect to play it?

Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for more info, after DICE revealed that the title would have a presence at the Tokyo Game Show which kicks off on September 16th.

If someone happens to read this over at DICE, no music = no sale.
